5 Critical Factors When Hiring a Pool Contractor

One of the biggest investments you can make to your house aside from the home itself is to add a swimming pool in the back yard. Since this is such a big decision to any family, it is highly recommended to complete your proper due diligence to make sure you hire the correct company with the most experienced installers so you can ensure to the best of your ability that the job is done right. 1.) Ensure the Company is Licensed, Bonded warehouses, and Insured. The State of California and County of San Diego has specific licensing requirements for any pool contractor. If you are speaking to a contractor who holds a license other than that of constructing pools, such as a more general classification for construction and repair, ensuring they also hold the license specific to pool construction. This is very important to protect you in case something goes awry. 2.) Get References and Past Customer Recommendations. 3.) Meet with San Diego Trade Associations. 4.) Cost is Always Negotiable. Don’t settle for the first pool contractor you meet with nor the first price you receive. It is generally recommended to get at least 3 bids before making a decision so you can compare the total scope of work in what is included, the quality of the finished product, what materials are used, and also cost.

5.) Contracts. Become familiar with reading and evaluating contracts and get as much information as possible in understanding the process and what protection you have as the customer. Remember the contract is a binding agreement, and if there is a lack of understanding in the fine print, ask someone more knowledgeable on reading the contract or contact your lawyer. Pay close attention to details about penalties, milestones, and payments.

How to Find the Best Concrete Contractor

Hiring a concrete contractor instead of laying concrete yourself is always a good decision because working with concrete requires some experience and special equipment. You can start you search for a contractor by asking you co-workers, friend or neighbors for recommendations. Check out the concrete work that was done for them, how it looks today, how long ago it was done and in what shape the concrete is right now. If someone you know is happy with their concrete project, contact same contractor to arrange a meeting.

Another good place to find a contractor is local concrete supplier stores. They definitely know all local concrete contractors and can give you recommendations. Some stores have their own concrete contractors’ team and you can get an appraisal at no cost.

Before you hire a contractor make sure to ask them few questions to see how experienced contractor is and if he has all necessary licenses and ability to get permits. Here is a list of question you need to ask your potential contractor:

• How long have they been laying concrete and installing pavers?

• Can they provide you with references from previous jobs?

• Can you contact their references and inspect the jobs?

• Check their liability insurance certificate and proof of Worker Compensation Insurance

• Will they provide a written, itemized proposal that includes starting and completion dates, demolition and excavation paving and base materials, taxes and terms of payment?

• Do they guarantee their work for one year? Will they return in a year to inspect it?

Good concrete contractor should be able to answer all these questions. Before signing the contract, read through it one more time to make sure all aspects of the concrete project are covered and your concrete contractor can start on it.
